"The West Grove Downs"
The Downs was formerly a long time dairy farm owned by Mr and Mrs Howard Rogers. In 1975 a potato farmer from Maine by the name of Dana Irving purchased the farm and turned it into a 60 stall stable complete with 1/2 mile training track enclosing an attractive pond and breeding shed.
Dana had 28 broodmares and raced his own standardbreds. The farm had its own stallion, Scarlett Skipper who serviced around 160 mares a year.
In 1986 Dana sold the farm to Dr. Sallam, who continued to have Standardbred horses at the new "Alsabah Farm".
In 2011 Alsabah Farm underwent a facelift with 16 new paddocks, a new dock for swimming standardbreds and new roofs.
The farm has since been purchased by a new owner Mr. Joseph E. Riad who is a life long resident of Kennett Square.
He is passionate about horse riding and horse racing.
West Grove Downs is currently getting ready to go through some more improvements, that will be beneficial to the horses and the community.
